Alcoholic Addiction Support

Alcohol addiction, often referred to as alcoholism or alcohol use disorder (AUD), is far more than just a bad habit. It’s a complex and often deeply rooted condition that affects both the body and the mind.

It doesn’t always begin dramatically. Sometimes it starts quietly, an extra glass here or there, turning into a regular crutch for stress, emotions, or just to get through the day. Over time, that relationship with alcohol shifts. What may have once felt like a choice can start to feel like a necessity. If you find that alcohol is no longer something you enjoy in moderation, but something you rely on, you may be experiencing signs of addiction.

One of the biggest myths I hear is that overcoming alcohol addiction is simply about willpower. But recovery is not about being “strong enough.” Alcohol use disorder is a health condition. One influenced by a mix of factors including trauma, stress, mental health, genetics, and environment. It’s not a moral failing; it’s a sign that something deeper needs attention and care.

When the body and mind become used to alcohol, letting go of it can feel overwhelming. Withdrawal can bring on a range of physical symptoms, shakes, nausea, restlessness, as well as psychological ones like anxiety, depression, or mood swings. These experiences are real and valid, and they’re why having proper support through recovery is so important.

A Personalised Approach to Healing

As an independent therapist, I offer a personal and private space, either from my peaceful home office or my therapy room in the heart of Bournemouth, where you can talk openly and work through these challenges at your own pace. There’s no judgement, no labels, just space to breathe and begin again.

I use a range of approaches tailored to your needs, including:

  • One-to-one counselling

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Motivational interviewing

  • Relapse prevention planning

  • Support for underlying trauma and mental health

  • Ongoing recovery support sessions

Recovery isn’t just about quitting alcohol. It’s about rediscovering your sense of self, building healthier coping mechanisms, and creating a life where you feel more in control. Together, we’ll work not just on stopping, but on healing.
